Are you ready? Before we jump in, let’s go over some common questions to help you get started.

Things To Know Before You Start

1. Choose The Yarn You Love

You can use any type of yarn you love, like cotton, plush, velvet, and so on paired with the right hook size. Different yarn thickness will change the size of your crochet piece: thinner yarn makes smaller piece, thicker yarn makes bigger piece.

2. My Crochet Method

My crochet method – I use the Yarn Under and the pieces are worked in Spiral Round (Continuous Round) Method.

3. Tension Differences

I crochet with a very tight tension. So, if you use the same yarn and hook size as me but your crochet piece turns out bigger or longer, that’s totally normal! You can adjust by adding or removing rounds where the stitch count stays the same.

For example, in the pattern:

Rounds 5 to 12: 30sc (8 rounds)

But if your tension is looser and 8 rounds make your crochet piece look too stretched or long, you can reduce 1 to 3 rounds to get the perfect shape.

4. Safety First for Little Ones

If you’re making this as a gift for a baby or young child, I recommend embroidering the details like the eyes, nose, and mouth instead of using plastic safety parts. Embroidered features are much safer for little ones 🙂

Now that you’ve read the tips, let’s move on to the Materials you’ll need!!!

Materials

1. Yarn. I used Bulky (weight 5) yarn in White, Pink, Green and Yellow colors.

– Less than 10 grams of weight 5 White yarn for the Head, Arms and Legs.

– Less than 10 grams of weight 5 Pink yarn for the Body.

– Less than 5 grams of weight 5 Green yarn for the Scarf.

– Yellow yarn to embroider the Strawberry Spots.

2. Crochet hook suitable with your yarn. I used a 4mm hook.

3. Safety eyes. I used 8mm.

4. Tapestry needle.

5. Markers.

6. Scissors.

7. Pins

8. White sewing thread (optional)

9. Felt fabric (optional)

10. Fiber glue (optional)

11. Tweezer (optional)

Abbreviations (US Terms)

MR: magic ring

R: Round

st/sts: stitch/stitches

ch: chain stitch

slst: slip stitch

sc: single crochet stitch

dc: double crochet stitch

Pattern Instructions

Crochet the Miffy Head

Check the Free Written Pattern of the Miffy Head HERE!!!

Crochet the Arm

With White yarn,

Round 1. 6sc in a MR (6)

Round 2. (2sc, 1inc)*2 (8)

Rounds 3 and 4. sc around (8) (2 rounds)

Stuff the Arm. Fold the top opening flat and crochet the two edges together with 4sc. Fasten off. Make 2 pieces.

Check the tutorial for detailed instructions on How to close the Arm.

Crochet the Leg

With White yarn,

Round 1. 6sc in a MR (6)

Round 2. 6inc (12)

Round 3. sc around (12)

Change to Pink yarn,

Check the tutorial for detailed instructions on How to change the yarn.

Round 4. sc around (12)

Finish the Leg with 1 tight slip stitch into the first stitch. Fasten off.

Check the tutorial for detailed instructions on How to finish the Leg.

Make 2 pieces, do not fasten off the second Leg as we’ll join with the first Leg.

Crochet the Body

Round 1. 12sc on the first Leg, 12sc on the second Leg (24)

Check the tutorial for detailed instructions on How to join the two Legs and work Round 1 of the Body without leaving any gaps. Normally, the usual joining method can leave a gap between the legs that needs sewing later, but in the tutorial I’ll show you a neat way to connect them seamlessly. Of course, feel free to use your own favorite joining method if you prefer!!!

Here’s the method I used in the Tutorial:

First, join Leg 2 to Leg 1 with 1sc. This stitch counts as the first stitch of Leg 1, so place a stitch marker there.

Continue crocheting 10 more stitches of Leg 1. Now you’ll have only the 12th (last) stitch of Leg 1 left.

Normally, this would leave a gap at the joint between the Leg and the joining chain. To close the gap, make a sc2tog using the 12th stitch and the first stitch of Leg 1. This sc2tog should be made as tight as possible. Its purpose is to close the gap at the joining point.

Continue with Leg 2. Leg 2 has 12 stitches, work 11 stitches and leave the 12th unworked. Just like with Leg 1, the 12th stitch of Leg 2 will be worked together (sc2tog) with the first stitch of Leg 2 to close the gap between the two Legs.

Round 1 of the Body has a total of 24 stitches.

Round 2. (5sc, 1inc)*4 (28)

Rounds 3 and 4. sc around (28) (2 rounds)

Round 5. (5sc, 1dec)*4 (24)

Round 6. sc around (24)

Round 7. (2sc, 1dec)*6 (18)

Round 8. sc around and attach the Arms (18)

At R8, attach the Arms to the Body with 4sc per Arm, with a distance of 4sts between the two Arms at the front and 6sts at back sides of the Body.

Stitch placement might differ depending on whether we have tight or loose yarn tension while crocheting. Therefore, feel free to adjust accordingly based on your crochet piece, ensuring that the joined Arms are aligned with the Legs.

Tip: Leave the yarn tails of the Arms outside, as we will use it to secure the crochet piece later.

Check the tutorial for detailed instructions on Round 7.

Round 9. (7sc, 1dec)*2 (16)

Fasten off with a long enough yarn to sew with the Head later. In the tutorial, I only left a short yarn tail because I prefer sewing the parts together with white thread.

Stuff the Body firmly.

Crochet the Scarf

Round 1. 23ch

Round 2. From 3rd chain from hook: 1dc, 2ch, 1slst, (1slst, 2ch, 1dc, 2ch, 1slst)*6

Fasten off.

Check the tutorial for detailed instructions on How to make the Scarf.

Finish the cute Strawberry Miffy

– Secure the crochet piece by tying all the yarn tails together.

Check the tutorial for detailed instructions on How to secure the crochet piece.

– Sew the Head to the Body.

Check the tutorial for detailed instructions on How to sew the Head to the Body.

– Attach the Scarf to the Miffy.
