Are you ready? Before we jump in, let’s go over some common questions to help you get started.

Things To Know Before You Start

1. Choose The Yarn You Love

You can use any type of yarn you love, like cotton, plush, velvet, and so on paired with the right hook size. Different yarn thickness will change the size of your crochet piece: thinner yarn makes smaller piece, thicker yarn makes bigger piece.

2. My Crochet Method

My crochet method – I use the Yarn Under and the pieces are worked in Spiral Round (Continuous Round) Method.

3. Tension Differences

I crochet with a very tight tension. So, if you use the same yarn and hook size as me but your crochet piece turns out bigger or longer, that’s totally normal! You can adjust by adding or removing rounds where the stitch count stays the same.

For example, in the pattern:

Rounds 5 to 12: 30sc (8 rounds)

But if your tension is looser and 8 rounds make your crochet piece look too stretched or long, you can reduce 1 to 3 rounds to get the perfect shape.

4. Safety First for Little Ones

If you’re making this as a gift for a baby or young child, I recommend embroidering the details like the eyes, nose, and mouth instead of using plastic safety parts. Embroidered features are much safer for little ones 🙂

Now that you’ve read the tips, let’s move on to the Materials you’ll need!!!

Materials

1. Yarn. I used about 50 grams of Supper Bulky (weight 6) yarn for the Baby Heart.

2. Crochet hook suitable with your yarn. I used a 5.5mm crochet hook.

3. Safety eyes. I used 14mm.

4. Tapestry needle.

5. Markers.

6. Scissors.

7. Stuffing.

8. Tweezers (optional)

Abbreviations (US Terms)

MR: magic ring

R: Round

st/sts: stitch/stitches

sc: single crochet stitch

inc: increase stitch

(…)*x: repeat the instructions in brackets x times

Finished Size

The finished Baby Heart measures approximately 13cm (5 inches) tall. Size may vary depending on crochet tension and materials (yarn & hook) used.

Slightly stuff only the lower Arm if you prefer. Fold the top opening flat and crochet the two edges together with 3sc. Fasten off. Make 2 pieces.

Round 7. 24sc on the first Top Part, 24sc on the second Top Part (48)

Check the tutorial for detailed instructions on How to join the two Parts and work Round 7 of the Baby Heart without leaving any gaps. Normally, the usual joining method can leave a gap between the two Parts that needs sewing later, but in the tutorial I’ll show you a neat way to connect them seamlessly. Round 8. sc around (48)

Round 9. (4sc, 1dec)*8 (40)

At R10, attach the Arms to the Body with 4sc per Arm, with a distance of 16sts between the two Arms at the front and 18sts at the back sides of the Body.

Stitch placement might differ depending on whether we have tight or loose yarn tension while crocheting. Therefore, feel free to adjust accordingly based on your crochet piece, ensuring that the joined Arms are centered on the Body.

Tip: Leave the yarn tails of the Arms outside, as we will use it to secure the crochet piece later.

Check the tutorial for detailed instructions on Round 10.

Round 11. (3sc, 1dec)*8 (32)

Round 12. sc around (32)

Round 13. (2sc, 1dec)*8 (24)

Round 16. sc around and attach the Legs (16)

At R16, attach the Legs to the Body with 3sc per Leg, with a distance of 4sts between the two Legs at the front side and 6sts at the back side of the Body.

Stitch placement might differ depending on whether we have tight or loose yarn tension while crocheting. Therefore, feel free to adjust accordingly based on your crochet piece, ensuring that the joined Ears are aligned at the center of the Body.

Tip: Leave the yarn tails of the Legs outside, as we will use it to secure the crochet piece later.

Check the tutorial for detailed instructions on Round 16.

Round 17. (2sc, 1dec)*4 (12)

Stuff the Head firmly.

Round 18. (1sc, 1dec)*4 (8)

Round 19. 4dec (4)

Fasten off. Weave the yarn tail through the front loops of the last round and pull it tight to close off the piece. Hide the yarn tail inside.

Finish the Baby Heart ❤️

– Secure the crochet piece by tying all the yarn tails together.

Check the tutorial for detailed instructions on How to secure the crochet piece.
